Next steps

Having decided you could give a stable and loving home to a child, you will probably have many questions and lots to consider. It is really important you find out as much as you can about the adoption process and being an adoptive parent. It is also important that you understand what it is like to be an adopted child.

We suggest you begin with the following:

  • Listen to a podcast

Be inspired by the experiences of people who have adopted a child

  • Read a book about adoption

We have a list of books we recommend on the BAAF website.

  • Contact your local adoption agency

Adoption agencies match potential parents with the right child. To find out how to get in touch with your local authority adoption team or an approved voluntary adoption agency, use the BAAF agency directory.

  • Advice and support

There are organisations that you can contact if you are thinking about adopting a child, an adoptive parent, adopted person or birth parent. We provide a brief listing of organisations to help.
